Pakistan Green and Resilient Building Conference 2025 Promotes Sustainable Construction Practices

KARACHI: The three-day Pakistan Green and Resilient Building Conference 2025 concluded in Karachi, uniting key representatives from federal and provincial departments, private enterprises, financial institutions, and development partners to advance sustainable and climate-resilient construction practices in Pakistan.

The conference focused on developing practical strategies and policy frameworks to promote energy-efficient, eco-friendly, and climate-resilient building solutions across the country.

Delivering the keynote address, Aisha Moriani, Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, highlighted the government’s recent policy milestones, including the Pakistan Green Building Code 2023, Green Taxonomy, and Climate Risk Screening Guidelines 2024. She noted these initiatives reflect Pakistan’s strong commitment to integrating sustainability within national planning and urban development.

The event also featured the EDGE Awards, recognizing organizations for their exceptional performance in energy and resource efficiency. OGDC, Zameen Development, Allied Bank, Safia Homes (Ansaar Management Company), Modulus Green Homes, HBL Microfinance Bank, Serena Hotels, and Habib University were among the eight awardees. Chairman P&D Najam Shah graced the occasion and presented the awards.

Speaking at the event, Muzamil Hussain Halepoto, Director General, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), emphasized the Sindh government’s commitment to incorporating green building standards and environmental safeguards into building regulations. “Promoting sustainable construction not only mitigates climate risks but also strengthens the foundation of future urban growth,” he stated.

During a panel discussion with experts from the Ministry of Climate Change, National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority, and the World Bank, participants discussed financial incentives, policy alignment, and capacity-building mechanisms to scale up green and resilient infrastructure nationwide.

The conference concluded with a high-level roundtable on Green Building Incentives, exploring market-based approaches and government support to accelerate sustainable construction. Participants also attended capacity-building workshops on the International Finance Corporation’s Building Resilience Index, gaining tools to assess and enhance structural resilience against environmental challenges.
